Supplemental Canon

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8, story by series creator Joss Whedon, is the canonical continuation of the series in comic book format. The first issue was released March 14, 2007 by Dark Horse Comics1; a new issue is released approximately every month. The first five issues are available together in one volume, The Long Way Home. The most recent issue, #9 No Future For You: Part IV, released December 5, 2007.2

In addition to Buffy Season 8, Joss Whedon has written and co-written several other stories to supplement the already rich world of characters that he created in Buffy and the companion series Angel. Fray, an 8-issue comic book spin-off, set in the future, is the story of Melaka Fray, the slayer. The watcher's have gone crazy, the world is in turmoil, and it's, as ever, hard to tell the good guys from the bad. Interestingly, Buffy's super-slayer weapon, her scythe, was first introduced, not on Buffy but in Fray. Fray, published from 2001-2003, is now available as one volume in trade paperback form.3'4

Tales of the Slayers, a trade paperback, published in 2002, is a series of stories, written by Joss Whedon, other writers from Buffy, and cast member Amber Benson (who portrays Tara), about different slayers throughout history.5

Tales of the Vampires, now available in trade paperback, is a five issue series, published in 2003-2004, written by Buffy writers.6 It is an anthology of vampire tales brought together by a bridging story written by Joss Whedon.
